
Tulki, a movie based on polyandry, will be screened from the 26th of May. Tulkee, Nepal’s first story movie based on polyandry, produced ‘The Palm Group Pvt.
According to producer Shekhar Lama, the practice of polyandry, which still persists as a bad practice in the costumes of Himalayan districts such as Dolpa, Humla, Mugu, etc., is shown through ‘Tulkee’. The movie has been shot in remote villages like She Phoksundo, Tripurakot, Ralli, Karelikanda and other villages of Dolpa.
In the movie, a girl who grew up in a different community in the lower area of Dolpa goes to the upper area after a love marriage and after going there, the tragic story of gang rape that she had to suffer in the name of custom is revealed in the movie.
Short Story:Tulkee, who lost her mother while being born in a Bramhin village of Lower Dolpa falls in love when she grows young; with Sangey who came to sell Herbs from Upper Dolpa. Sangey takes her to Upper Dolpa Pulling her hand and eloping.
He has a father and 2 elder brothers in his house. Elder most brother is born with special need (Dull) whereas the second one, Chewang is arrogant who is in love with his own aunt’s daughter Dolma.
Due to the practice of Polyandry in that region, Tulki who was born in Bramhin family has to become the wife of 3 brothers. Chewang tries to clear his way to marry his beloved Dolma keeping Sange and Tulkee aside. Tulki gets pregnant during that period, Sangey and Tulkee want to escape from this mess and want settle down in new horizon.
The movie is directed Dev Thapa, Cinematography Sushil Adhikari and Navraj Ghimire. RP Karmacharya and Ujeli Lama are playing the role of producers in the movie produced Shekhar Lama. The story of the movie is written Laxman Sunar and the screenplay is Shekhar Lama. The film has been edited Tara Thapa, background music Sanjeev Subba, choreography Ligesh Bhattarai and Ramesh Budhathoki.
